FROM THE DIRECTOR

We welcome new board member Adelina (Addie) Grageda. Addie joined our board in January, 2012. We are excited to have her be a part of the Grief Place organization.

In January we held another Facilitator Training. 15 individuals were trained to be facilitators. They all have great ideas and goals in mind for where they would like to serve. In results of this training, we are offering a couple of new groups. The first group is a Grief/Loss Support Group for Senior Adults. Working together with Columbia Heights Retirement and Assisted Living Community, we are able to provide this group at their location on Cherry Street. The group will be held every Monday, beginning Feb. 13th, at 11:00 am. The group is for all Senior Adults who are experiencing grief/loss through: A death, divorce, loss of a pet, selling the family home to move into a smaller home/apt., relocating, etc.

Another group that is starting is a group for Caregivers of Children with Attachment Difficulties. This group will meet every 4th Wednesday of the month, beginning Feb. 22nd, here at Grief Place. Licensed Therapist, Barbara Robinson has been treating children and families with Attachment Difficulties for over 20 years. Barbara will join the group as her time permits. This group is for parents, foster parents, respite caregivers, etc. There is no charge to either group.

Other groups in the works (and coming soon!): Hispanic group for Adults and Children and a Teen Group held after school. Be watching for more information regarding these groups.

Camp Erin Wenatchee is right around the corner. Mark your calendars – July 27-30th. Yep…it’s earlier in the Summer this year. Volunteers are encouraged to call know for more information. Families with children/teens who have experienced a death of a family member or loved one are encouraged to call for a camper application. This camp is free for children ages 6-17. Call us today!

If you haven’t been by to see the new look of Grief Place, please feel free to stop by any time. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. A special Thank you to Rufus Woods from Wenatchee World and Jim Rogers of Empire Press for stopping in during our Open House and doing a write up about all the changes that have taken place. Also thank you to local radio stations for helping us get the word out.

I am excited about everything that is happening. We are receiving more and more calls from individuals and families in need of our services. We are so glad that we are able to help! Our services are no charge – thanks to generous donations, grants and fundraisers. If you are ever looking for a good charity to donate too, we would be happy to talk with you about our services. Please call us any time at 509-662-6069.

I’m a little late in saying this but…Happy New Year!
Karen Sheppard, Executive Director
